So while the rest of America ate turkey and then digested it for the rest of the day we had a great pleasure of spending some real fun time with our new friend Alda and her roomie in their artist’s loft in TK building and with Alda’s super rad brother Alan and his talented singer-girlfriend (I shamelessly forgot her name) and neighbor-artist (also Andrew) from next door and his super-mature-for-his-age 14 year old son. We started the evening with food: chicken, baked veggies, cheeses and salad Olivye and only one bottle of dry Riesling that didn’t even get finished! The fun was running on natural high. Then we came up with a game, paper charades, where people had to make a given word out of paper while everyone tried to guess. While we littered the table with glitter and paper Alda’s brother showed up with some serious equipment: a karaoke machine. He and his girlfriend are doing this professionally in different venues around town so it was no joke. We had to sing. They had every song possible, so whatever rocks your boat was in there. Oh how we rocked! Well, seeing is believing so here’s our video report. Oh and please check photos here

Когда вся Америка кушала огромную индюшку, мы весело тусили с богемной компанией и нашей подругой Альдой. Мы правда тоже кушали, только салат Оливье и курочку и всяческие тушёные овощи. Потом начали играть в бумажные шарады, это когда вытягиваешь слово и за две минуты пытаешься его сделать из бумаги, а все угадывают. Было конечно весело, пока не явился брат Альды с профи караоке оборудованием. Тогда веселье не заканчивалось часов до 12 ночи. Открылись такие таланты голоса. Даже Андрюша спел. Вообщем, что рассказывать, мы и показать можем:) Да, а фотографии лежат здесь.
I’ve been carrying this project in my mind for the past two years after reading about making a clock out of an old hard drive.
I had an old hard drive and a cheap clock from IKEA just never had enough spare time for the project. Well, being ill for most of the weekends freed up some time so I started disassembling and re-assembling parts. Right away I found out that I had a different model hard drive from the one described and my model had the rotor part that was impossible to disassemble. It would still work, but then the clock shaft was too short to “peek” through the hole (in the HD) enough to put arms on it. Some thinking had to be done. I could theoretically buy clock parts with the longer shaft, but that would require spending additional money ($15 from Amazon). So, I’ve just studied the parts and found that what now is the “base” of the clock was magnetic and I could pry it apart and insert the shiny plate. Then with a little help of superglue the clock part was attached. However, with the battery in the whole thing wouldn’t stand on its own. That’s where an HD’s arm came in handy. The clock is done! Unfortunately, while attaching the little light bulb to the front I’ve accidentally ripped out teeny wire so now it doesn’t light up. It is fixable, I just need to borrow a soldering iron. Here’s the final result.

Этот проэкт я задумала ещё два года назад, когда прочитала на Интернете как сделать часы из жёсткого диска. Нерабочий диск у меня был и также дешёвые часы из ИКЕА. Вот только руки всё не доходили. Но дождливые выходные и плохое самочувствие дали мне необходимое время и я начала разбирать и собирать части. Сразу же стало очевидно, что мой диск другой модели чем тот, который описывался на Интернете и одна нужная деталь не разбиралась совсем. Ну ничего, всё равно можно было собрать и без той детали. Тут возникла ещё проблема: к сожалению у часов та деталь на которую насаживаються стрелки была не достаточно длинная чтобы пройти через отверствие в диске. Так что пришлось поломать голову, но в итоге я всё-таки придумала дизайн и собрала-таки работающие часы. Там должна ещё лампочка загораться, но я нечаянно порвала проводок при сборке, так что мне теперь нужен паяльник чтобы починить её.

It’s been a while since I’ve written here. There is nothing new to report since the wedding. For over a month I’ve been dealing with some sort of virus, (ugh!) so social scene was dead for me for a while.Well, good news is I am coming back to life and soon will post images from the wedding! I am so excited to see the professional ones. Also, Andrew recently celebrated his birthday with our good friends at the Purple Wine Bar. It is amazing but I didn’t get to enjoy it yet (was home, bedridden). We are also approaching Thanksgiving, so hopefully there will be few parties there. Check back soon.

А у нас опять дожди не переставая… Прямо песенка Моби (тут можно прослушать). Но затишье было не из-за дождя, а всяческих вирусных неприятностей из-за которых мы никуда не выходили больше месяца. Ну меньше с тем и больше хорошего-скоро выложу фотки со свадьбы Мишель и Дэна, они их уже от фотографа получили. А ещё у нас приближается День Благодарения, так что будет пару вечеринок наверное в связи с этим событием. Оставайтесь на связи!
